Jasmine slept peacefully in her pajamas just hours after being released from the hospital. Her mother, Maggie Nevarez, saysEMS told her the baby’s car seat was completely crushed. How Jasmine escaped without serious injuries is a mystery.

Maggie asks everyone to remember the love of her life. Rene Alarcon was killed on Labor Day when 19-year-old Jose Rascon, allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Transmountain Drive and North Desert Blvd. and slammed into a car with Rene, Maggie and Jasmine. Rene died on the scene. Maggie tells ABC-7she didn’t learn of the news until she was at the hospital.

Fivedays later, friends and family of Rene Alarcon gathered in Anthony to celebrate the young father’s life. A good friend of Rene’s, internationally famous Lorenzo Mendez, entertained the crowd with songs. Loved ones hugged each other tight and let the tears flow. Then, each person lighted a candle in Rene’s memory.

Maggie tells ABC-7 she’s still in shock. She says she’ll probably realize Rene is gone when she sees him at the funeral. Good news though that little jasmine is back with her mom.
