New Mexico Reports 15 New Cases Of West Nile

SANTA FE,N.M.(AP) – New Mexico is reporting that 15 new cases of West Nile virus infections have been confirmed over the past week.

New Mexico has confirmed a total of 42 human cases of West Nile virus so far this year, including two fatalities. The state reported eight West Nile cases all of last year, one of them fatal, and 33 cases in 2005, with two fatalities.

The Department of Health’s public health veterinarian, Dr. Paul Ettestad, says mosquitoes have been testing positive for West Nile virus in very high numbers across the state. The latest human cases include five in Dona Ana County, which has reported more West Nile cases than any other county.
