Late Night Motorcycle Crash Highlights Need For More Education
EL PASO, TX. – A man is rushed to the hospitalTuesday morning after he crashes his motorcycle.
It happened just after 11:30Monday night at Interstate-10 West and Westway. Sheriff’s officials would not give anyinformation on the crash, saying only that it involved a motorcycle. Life Ambulance tellsABC-7 they transported one person in serious condition.
This is the latest in several motorcycle crashes this year alone in El Paso County. El Paso Police say the increase in crashes and fatalities involving motorcycles is due to a general increase in the number of inexperienced people riding.Inan accident earlier lastweek, police say the driver was speeding when he lost control of his bike and hit the back of a car.
El Paso Police say they want to work with the public to make sure similar crashes don’t happen in the future. That’s why for the first time they’re offering free motorcycle classes taught by El Paso Motorcycle Officers. Police say the classes will teach riders how to use proper gear, make themselves more visible, inspect their bikes, develop their skills and avoid drinking and driving.
The El Paso Police Department says anyone with any interest in riding motorcycles can attend these free classes. They’ll be offered on the fourth Thursday of every month, except December at the Northeast Regional Command Center. The department asks only that participantspre-register with the department’s Safe Communities Program at 915/564-7352.
