New Crash Truck Debuts At Las Cruces Airport
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Las Cruces Fire Department has a new, state-of-the-art, rescue vehicle that will be used to respond to aircraft emergencies at the Las Cruces International Airport.
The apparatus, called Crash-7, is equipped with a 665 horsepower engine, a 1,850 gallon-per-minute pump, a 1,500 gallon water tank, 450 pounds of dry chemical extinguishing agent and 100 gallons of foam concentrate. The apparatus also is outfitted with a special firefighting nozzle that can penetrate the skin of an aircraft to reach fires within a plane’s cabin.
The truck was purchased for $625,000 using a combination of federal, state and municipal funds. Crash-7 replaces a 1976 Oshkosh crash truck and a 1975 Chevrolet pickup that was equipped with a dry chemical extinguishing system.
