Two Arrested For Attack During Irving Immigrant Rally
IRVING, TX. (AP) – Two people charged with attacking protesters during a rally in Irving opposing the city’s rise in immigrant deportations — are free on bond.
Misdemeanor assault charges have been filed against 62-year-old Jerry Don Grayson and 61-year-old Teresa Williams. Williams also was charged with failure to identify herself. Both counterprotesters were taken into custody late yesterday while some 2,000 demonstrators marched outside Irving City Hall. They called for a moratorium of the Criminal Alien Program.
The program is meant to detect illegal immigrants who are jailed — ensuring they’re deported once they’ve complied with their sentence. But the Mexican Consulate says Irving police are racially profiling and being overzealous. Attempts to leave messages for Grayson and Williams today were unsuccessful. It’s unclear if either of them has an attorney.
