Former El Paso County Judge Issued Public Censure

EL PASO, TX. – Dolores Briones, El Paso’s former County Judge, was publicly censured by the El Paso County Board of Ethics Friday. This, according to a letter from board Chairman Dr. Gregory Rocha.

On Wednesday, the board found Briones violated County ethics rules when she accepted a paid trip to sports facilities run by company Big League Dreams. The company was seeking to take over management of El Paso’s County Sportspark.

Briones maintained she took the trips as fact-finding missions for the County, and reimbursed Big League Dreams for the cost of the trips.

Former County Commissioner Betti Flores was also accused of ethics violation for the same issue. However, the Ethics Board dropped the case against Flores after learning she had not only reimbursed Big League Dreams, but had also placed the item up for public discussion on the Commissioners Court Agenda.

The public censure issued to Dolores Briones carries no legal penalty.
