Man Hit, Pinned By Car In West El Paso

EL PASO, TX. – A man is pinned under a car in West El Paso and authorities rush to save his life.

It happened just after 2 a.m. Mondaymorning in the 6400 block of Songland. El Paso Police and Fire Rescue Crews received a call of a pedestrian accident and when they arrived at the scene, fire crews said they found a man held under a car by a tire resting on his chest. That’s when they called for backup.

Rescue officials said they knew they would need the ‘jaws of life’ in order to pull the man out from under the vehicle. They used what’s called a spreader to lift the car and the man was moved out and transferred to a waiting ambulance.

Captain Manuel Torres of the El Paso Fire Department told ABC-7, “the man was conscious the whole time, moaning and complaining of pain, but we could tell he had no head injuries. It was mostly the car resting on his chest.”

Because of how the vehicle was resting on him, officials said they believe the man could have some very serious internal injuries though no official word on his condition had yet been released.

Witnesses on the scene told rescue crews that a woman was driving the car though it is unclear whether she knew the man or if the incident was just an unfortunate accident. El Paso Fire crews told ABC-7 that they believe alcohol was a factor at least on the victim’s part; they said they smelled alcohol on him as they were working to save him.

There is no information on what charges if any may be brought against either one of the two people involved or how exactly the car came to rest on top of the man.

This investigation is still on-going and more information will be released when it is available here on ABC-7’s KVIA.com and in our newscasts.
