Woman Killed In Saturday Morning Crash
EL PASO, TX. -A family continues to mourn the loss of a daughter, twin sister, mother and grandmotherafter an early morning car crash claims the life.
Christina Gomez who worked for Sun Metro for nearly 2 decades was killed in a crash Saturday. El Paso Police say the car Gomez was driving was T-boned at the intersection of Martin Luther King and Stan Roberts a little after 6:30 Saturday morning.
ABC-7 has learned thatGomez was on her way to a Sun Metro event at Cohen stadium. According to police, she was driving west on Martin Luther King when she failed toyield the right of way and was hit by a white Dodge Durango. The driver of theSUV, 40-year-old John de Anda, was taken to R.E. Thomason Hospital and later released.
Gomez died at the scene. It is the 42nd traffic fatality this year, compared to 35 this sametime last year.ABC-7 spoketoSun Metro’s spokeswomanwhosaid Gomez was a much loved member of the Sun Metro family and that they share the loss of who she called “an exceptional woman.”
Loved ones bowed their heads trying to make sense of the loss of a woman who was a mother, a grandmother, a twin sister, and great friend to many. “She was a great person, man. She was outgoing, like the life of the party. She’d always lend out a helping hand. She was well known everywhere,” said her son, Andres.
ASun Metro employee for 18 years, Christina Gomez was the person at work who always put a smile on your face. A co-worker of Gomez said, “she was the person you’d go to for a shot of happiness.” But happiness is not the wordanyone woulduse to describe the family gathering at Gomez’ Central El Paso home.
“We lost our dad. I was 18, my brother was 9, and now we lose our mom. I’m 33 now, but she is the one that helped me get through my dad’s death and now what amI going to do to get through this one?” said Andres,in the midst of the heartbreak.
Hesaid heknows his mother would have wanted him to be strong for his family. “I gotta’ keep on living, you know. I have a son thatI gotta watch after now. He is 5-years-old and I’m sure he’sgoing to have a lot of questions on what happened.”
