UTEP Considers Tuition Hike, Asks Students For Feedback
EL PASO, TX. – UTEP is hosting a public forum about a proposed increase to tuition and fees for fall of next year.
University officials say it’s important for students to attend and give their feedback about the proposed hike. The proposed increases would be implemented in stages meaning tuition would go up by $201a semester for 15 units starting Fall 2008 and go up another $200 a semester for 15 units starting in Fall 2009.
Even if UTEP’s proposal is approved, the universitywould still have one of the lowest attendance costs in the state compared to many othersthat are also proposing increases.
The final recommendation will be presented toUTEP President Diana Natalicio, and then submitted to theUT system by December 1st for review and approval.
Some students expressed the challenge of funding higher education and balancing a school schedule with work to supplement financial aid, “As a student, a lot of people have to deal with work, you know. They’re also going to school, so it’s kind of hard.” said UTEP student, Michelle Archibald.
For those wantingto attend the public forum, it is scheduled forWednesday, October 17th at the Roderick Auditorium on theUTEP campus at 11:30 p.m.
