NMSU Greek System Partner With Police To Promote Moderation

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Homecoming celebrations atNMSU are already underway as students and fans get ready for the weekend’s game.

But some want to make sure their fellow Aggies don’t take those celebrations too far. In the excitement of the big game it’s easy for students to get carried away.

That’s why campus greeks are joining together with the New Mexico State Police to remind the student body of the consequences of pushing the party past the limit.

The “I Have a Choice” campaign is taking place on theNMSU campus and several fraternities and sororities came together to warn the student body about the consequences of binge drinking and drinking and driving. They demonstrated vision goggles that simulate the blurred vision from alcohol.

And the New Mexico State Police had Breathalyzers on hand as well as a holding cell inside a command center to show what students would be faced with if they were caught drinking and driving.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation has information on hand to explain what it means to be “branded for life.” Why? aDWI will stay ona driver’srecord for 55 years and can seriously impact job potential.

“I mean, we have to make our own choices, figuring out what we stand for, and when we have stuff like this, it’s informing people about all the dangers, and everything that comes with it,DWI, everything,” said NMSU student Josette Abeyta.

The Aggies are hosting the University of Idaho Vandals Saturday, October 20thand the game kicks off at 8 pm.
