Dona Ana Man Arrested For Domestic Violence On His Wedding Night

DONA ANA, N.M. – A Dona Ana County man was arrested for various chargesinvolvingdomestic violence on his wedding night.

39-year-old Peter Villa wascharged with False Imprisonment, a fourth degree felony, Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member, a third degree felony, Bribery of a Witness, a third degree felony, two counts of Battery Against a Household Member, misdemeanors and Interference with Communications, a misdemeanor, after his wife, who he just married earlier the same day, alleged that he attempted to strangle her after he became upset about the fact that only a few of his friends and relatives attended his wedding and wedding celebration.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Investigators, said a woman came to the Sheriff’s Department earlier Friday to report that her husband, who she had just married Thursday, October 18, had assaulted her when they arrived home from their wedding celebration.

Thewoman said he wasupset about the fact that only a few friends and relatives from his side of the family attended his wedding. Hebegan throwing items about the residence and when his wife attempted to call 911, he allegedly grabbed the telephone before she was able to place a call, throwing the telephone across the room.

Villa allegedly said to his new bride that he had a gun in his vehicle and that if she attempted to call anyone, police, relatives or anyone else, he would kill them if they showed up at their residence.

He then allegedly grabbed his new bride by her neck and proceeded to strangle her. It wasn’t until she attempted to grab for his groin area, that he released his grasp from around her neck, after which he grabbed her with both hands above her ears and allegedly squeezed her head.

The bride was only able to get away, whileVilla was in another room, breaking items.

Villa was arrested earlierFriday morning when located at the residence by Sheriff’s Deputies.

When questioned about the incident, Villa replied that it was regretful and that he could not recall details about what had happened, because he had been consuming alcohol while celebrating his marriage.

Villa was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Bond was set at $50,000.
