Staph Infection At A Roswell Elementary School

ROSWELL, N.M. – More concern after another school in the borderland is contaminated with staph; this time, an employee at El Capitan Elementary School in Roswell.

The employee was diagnosed with “MRSA” – which doesn’t respond to penicillin. The school has since been sterilized and students and faculty were allowed to return Friday.

School athletes appear particularly susceptible because of cuts and scrapes, bodily contact, and equipment sharing. But it can be avoided.

Don’t share personal items like towels or razors. Always bandage open wounds. And always remember to wash your hands throughout the day.
