Four EPISD Schools Named To TBEC Honor Roll For 2007
STATE and LOCAL REPORTS — The El Paso Independent School District reports that teachers and administrators from four of their campuses were recognized as Honor Roll Schools by the Texas Business and Education Coalition.
The representatives werehonoredduringceremonies this weekin Austin, officials said.
In a news release. the district said Silva Health Magnet, Crockett Elementary, Hart Elementary and Cielo Vista Elementary were the schools recognized.
Of more than 8,000 public schools in the state, fewer than 5 percent were named to the honor roll, district officials said.Officials also said three of the four schools are repeat honorees. Cielo Vista, Crockett and Silva Health Magnet also were commended in 2006 by TBEC.The TBEC Honor Roll is the most prestigious award for sustained, academic excellence in Texas, the district said.TBEC recognizes schools that have demonstrated three years of consistent, high performance in all subjects compared to other schools serving similar populations.
“Our four schools being honored have demonstrated consistent and steady academic performance over the years and they are well-deserving of state recognition,” said Dr. Lorenzo Garcia, superintendent of theEl Paso Independent School District.
“Recognition by TBEC is a great honor for EPISD. Our goal is to increase the number of schools that qualify for this recognition,” he was quoted as saying in the release.
