Redd Road Extension Proposal Fuels Debate

EL PASO, TX. – The possible extension of Redd Road has a lot of Upper Valley residents concerned.

They say they have many questions and those behind the project don’t have a lot of straight answers. About a hundred people showed up at a public meetingMonday night at Lincoln Middle School to discuss plans to extend Redd Road.

Currently, the western end of Reddends at Montoya Road. Plans call for extending the road westward to Upper Valley Road, a path that many residents feelwill tie up traffic in the area. Others are concerned that they will lose land in the process or even their homes.

City officials said there is nothing to worry about right now because the process is just in the early stages and nothing is yet set in stone. Some residentssaid while they appreciated city representatives holding these meetings, they just wished they were more clear on how the extension plan could affect local residents.

“I’m tired of wasting my time at these meetings. I have four questions I’d like to have answered. I’d like to know how many houses are going to be lost, when are we going to be notified that we’re going to have our houses taken, how much time are we going to have to get out of our houses, and are we going to be paid fair market value for our houses,” said Carolyn McKee, a concerned resident.

“Nothing is set in stone, we are just here to listen. I have not made up my mind,” said City representative Ann Morgan Lilly.Sheadded thatthere will be more meetings scheduled on the issue in the future, butsaid there are no definite dates for them.
