Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Man Wanted On Rape Charges
LAS CRUCES, NM — Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexicancitizenlate Tuesdaywho is wanted on rape charges in California, authorities reported in a news release.
Border Patrol agents apprehended Eulogio Gomez-Lamas, 30, from Nayarit, Mexico.
Agentsfound Gomez-Lamas when he pulled up ina carat the Las Cruces Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 10. Authorities say Gomez-Lamas appeared to act agitated or nervous at the time, and that roused inspectors’ suspicions.
Deputiesdirected to a secondary inspection for further investigation, the news release said. While there, Gomez-Lamas reported admitted to being in the United States illegally and was immediately taken into custody.
Authorities said further research revealing a criminal history for the man. Records showed Gomez-Lamas was wanted on an active felony warrant by the Los Angeles Police Department on rape charges, authorities said.
Gomez-Lamas was taken into custody by the New Mexico State Police Department. He is being detained pending formal extradition to Los Angeles.
