UPDATE: Water Main Break In Central El Paso Repaired, Crews Disinfect

EL PASO, TX. – An early morning water main break in Central El Paso may affect parents taking children to school.

The break occurred just after 12:30Thursday morning right in front of Ross Middle School on Hughey just west of Mescalero.It was a very busy scene, Thursday morning as crews from El Paso Water Utilities rushed to fix the water main break which happened directly in front of the middle school and up the street from Hughey Elementary.

The water rushed down Hughey Street onto Magruder as a 16-inch water main pipe ruptured. The line provides water to both of the nearby schools.Hughey Street was blocked off early Thursday morning from Magruder to Mescalero, as well as the intersection of Geronimo and Hughey, to allow work crews to focus their attention of repairing the break as quickly as possible.

El Paso Water Utilitiesofficials have confirmed that the water main has been repaired,but due to lowwater-pressure, EPISDdecided to suspendclasses at Hughey Elementary School for the day. Classes at Ross Middleproceeded as normal.

EPWU Officialssaid they were still investigating the cause of the rupture, but as of 11:45 a.m. they were working on disinfecting the area and the water running throughtheline. They said residents in the area may be without water until about 1 or 2 p.m.
