Students’ Cars Towed From Empty Lot After Miscommunication

EL PASO, TX. – Nearly a dozenUTEP students will have to pay good money to get their vehicles after several were towed off a lot slated for construction.

A number of vehicles were towed after students parked in the empty lot on Mesa between Cincinnati and Glory Road. Many weresurprised to come back to the spot where their car was, and not see it.

El Paso Towing officials say they put warning signs up Monday to give students fair notice. Unfortunately, not all drivers paid attention to those signs. A supervisor with El Paso Towing said crews towed ten cars from the loton Monday.

They stopped towing and started placing orange stickers on the windshields after the lot’s owner called. Drivers who’s vehicles did get towed say they never saw the sign, and aren’t looking forward to paying more than$100 dollars to get their vehicles back.

“People have been parking here for the last two months, and they’ve put no such thing as a warning saying that you can’t park here. So that’s the first time I’ve actually seen it,” said Adrian Lopez, whose car was towed.

“It sucks because I’m pretty much broke right now,” added David Hernandez. Students who picked up their vehicles had to pay around $115to get their cars back. That jumps about $22 per day starting Wednesday. But some lucky drivers only had to peel off an orange sticker Tuesday night.
