EPPD Chief Wiles: ‘You’ll See Me Retire’

EL PASO, TX — For the second time in just a few months, atop El Pasolawmanpublicly saysthat he intends to retire.

El Paso Chief of Police Richard Wiles let that slip at a community forum. Wiles was asked if he would consider running for sheriff of El Paso County, a position the incumbent, Leo Samaniego, intends to vacate at the end of his current term.

Wiles stepped away from a definitive answer, saying, “l can say is that you’re going to see me retire, I’ve been working for the city for 27 years. I think it’s time to do something different, so you’re probably going to see me retire at the end of November, first week of December, and I’ll be able to tell you then what i’m going to do.”

Wiles said he would clarify his future intentions once heleft the police force.
