Police On The Lookout For Drunk Drivers On Halloween

EL PASO, TX — The El Paso Police Department has issued a warning to adults who will be attending a Halloween party where alcoholic beverages are served. During last year’s Halloween weekend, local police made 34 DWI-related arrests, and officers plan to be out in force to pull over anyone they suspect on Wednesday of driving drunk.

Officers have released the following tips for drivers wishing to avoid an arrest.

People should plan ahead and designate a sober driver before going out partying. Revelers shouldn’t get behind a wheel if they think they’ve had too much to drink. Anyone who is alcohol impaired should call a taxi. Sun City Cab offers a free ride home to impaired motorists. Party hosts should make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, two-thirds of all highway fatalities at Halloween in 2003 were alcohol related. Additionally, those alcohol impaired drivers face the prospect of jail time, suspension or loss of their driver’s license, plus the high cost of going to court.
