Child Struck And Killed At New Mexico Speedway In Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – A three-year-old El Paso boy is dead after a trip to the New Mexico Speedway.

The accident happenedin the parking lot of the speedway, just after 7:20 p.m. Sundaynight.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials say Eric Ordonez allegedly darted in front of a 1999 full size Chevy pickup traveling through the parking lot.

The child suffered massive head injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is still ongoing – no charges have been filed at this point. Officials are still trying to determine how or why the child ran in front the vehicle.

They’re also trying to determine whether the driver of the truck was impaired; toxicology results are pending.
