El Pasoans Vote To Establish A New Children’s Hospital
EL PASO – Voters onTuesday approved an initiative, worth $120 million, to build a new children’s hospital.
With all 170 precincts reporting, 22,596 El Pasoans voted in favor and 21,828 voted against the issue.The bond passed by a margin of 768 votes.
The tax impact will be about $2.38 per month per $100,000 of home valuation. The new hospital will consist of five floors on top of a mother-baby unit already planned for construction at Thomason Hospital.
“This is a great day for El Paso. This is a vote for the children,” said Thomason CEO Jim Valenti.
The groundbreaking on the new hospital will begin in the summer of 2008, and the hospital is scheduled to open in 2011.
