Cruces Woman Captured After Weekend On The Run

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – A Las Cruces woman is back in custody after spending the weekend evading Dona Ana County sheriff’s deputies.

Frances Marie Yanaga was arrested after authorities received information about her possible whereabouts and what kind of vehicle she would be in.

Yanaga started hyperventilating after getting out of the vehicle so paramedics were called to check her before she was taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center and booked.

Sheriff’s Investigator Bo Nevarez says the 27-year-old fugitive was captured thanks to the teamwork of Las Cruces police and the sheriff’s department.

Last week, Yanaga slipped out of her handcuffs and past the deputy who was watching her at Magistrate Court. She was at the courthouse regarding a previous misdemeanor.

After her escape, a warrant was issued for her arrest, charging her with escape and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
