Border Patrol Agents Snag Nearly $600,000 Worth Of Drugs

SANTA TERESA, N.M. (AP) – Border Patrol agents have seized nearly $600,000 worth of marijuana and arrested nine people in three separate incidents in southern New Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says today that six people – four adults and two youths from Mexico – were arrested after entering the United States illegally near the Santa Teresa port of entry.

They are accused of carrying backpacks loaded with 285 pounds of marijuana valued at nearly $230,000. Near Hatch, agents arrested two U.S. citizens yesterday after discovering the pickup they were driving was found to have 237 pounds of marijuana worth about $189,000.

And agents arrested a 22-year-old California woman on Highway 80 near Lordsburg after searching her vehicle and discovering 212 pounds of marijuana worth nearly $170,000.
