Las Cruces Man Charged With Daughter’s Death

LAS CRUCES, N.M. –Las Cruces police have arrested a man in connection with the death of his baby daughter.

Robert Flores, 23, has been charged in the death of his four-month-old daughter, Kaylynne.

Police said Flores was watching his daughter late Wednesday night while his girlfriend, the baby’s mother, was at work. Authoritiesreport Flores decided to go pick upsome beer and he put his daughter in a laundry basket in the closet while he was away.

When Flores checked on the baby later,he realized she was wasn’t breathing, investigators said.Records show the baby wasn’t taken to a hospital until her mother came home after 3:30a.m. Thursday.Medical personnelpronounced the baby dead a short time later.

Flores is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond, charged with negligent child abuse resulting in death, authorities said.
