SISD Superintendent To Be Evaluated In Early 2008

EL PASO–Socorro Independent School Districtboard members worked late into the night Monday in closed session trying to decide when to evaluate Superintendent Sylvia Atkinson.
When the executive session adjourned, officialsconfirmed theJanuary 15 date for her evaluation.
Over twenty people signed up to speak during the board meeting’s open forum. Many of them called for the Atkinson to be fired.Still othersspoke in Atkinson’s defense, citing herleadership skills.
The criticisms stem from the failure of the $397 millionbond to passand allegations that Atkinson used her influence to hire Ida Trevino, a personal friend whohad workedwith Atkinson at a previous district,and her husband.
Ida Trevino resigned from her position as District Police Task Force Commander.
