Baby’s Death Investigated
EL PASO — Local authorities were called on Saturday to investigate the death of a newborn baby. The child’s body was found with a 20-year-old woman at a home on the 2900 block of Beachcomer in East El Paso.
Police said the baby was born early Saturday morning. Officers said medical crews took the woman to Thomason Hospital for a medical evaluation, but they did not specify if the woman was the child’s mother.
As the death of the infant occurred outside of a medical environment, such as a hospital, clinic or physician’s office, the case has become the jurisdiction of the police department and the district attorney.
“Depending on what the investigation reveals, an autopsy would tell us if it’s a natural death or if there are suspicious circumstances, or if a crime’s been committed. We have none of that information,” said police spokesman Darrel Petry.
