DPS Trooper Injured During Traffic Stop

MONTANA VISTA — A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety continued to recover Saturday from a gunshot wound.

Authorities said the shot was fired while the trooper was trying to make a traffic stop on Friday evening near the intersection of Las Casitas and Buffalo Bill. The area is in Montana Vista, in East El Paso County.

The trooper attempted to pull over an SUV, but the driver refused to stop and crashed the vehicle into a wall, DPS officials said.

Authorities said three men in the SUV exited the vehicle and started to run away. One of them allegedly fired a shot at the trooper, wounding him in the shoulder.

Officials managed to arrest one man, two other suspects remained at large as of Saturday evening.

The injured trooper was released from a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, medical crews said.
