Commercials Give El Paso A New Brand Name

EL PASO — The city has worked to reinvent itself in two new TVcommercials, with the hopeof drawing new visitors.

The ads ran for the first time on Monday in front of a national audience during the Sun Bowl.

The spots cost $23,000 to produce, and feature a new advertising slogan: “El Paso, Texas, the Capital of the Border.”

City officials say it’s the next step toward a city branding campaign designed to bring tourists and new businesses to El Paso

“Now we’re at a point in the campaign, especially with the Sun Bowl, where we’re reaching out to a national audience and so we want to say something really positive about El Paso and that’s what ‘Capital of the Border’ does,” said Kathy Dodson, the city’s economic development director. “I mean, we are ‘it’ on the border.”
