Final Phase Of Street Reconstruction To Begin

By Rachel Abell

EL PASO — The final phase of the Central Business District construction project is scheduled to beginin less than aweek, and it will close off major thoroughfares in Downtown El Paso, redirecting vehicle traffic for about six to eight weeks.

The reconstruction of several streets beginning January 13 will allow pedestrian traffic through certain intersections, but vehicles will be rerouted around some majortraffic areas, ABC 7 has learned.

Officials have asked motorists to give themselves a little extra time to maneuver through the detours while in the Downtown area.

Sun Metro bus service will temporarily relocate from San Jacinto Plaza to an area surrounding the public library at Missouri, Franklin and Oregon Streets.

Bus and shuttle riders will find help from additional Sun Metro personnel on site to answer questions and direct passengers. Alternate boarding location maps will be posted at the Plaza and on the buses.
