Overheated Power Cord Caused East Side Fire
EL PASO — A late night house fire has left an East Side family homeless. Emergency crews said the flames broke out just after 10 p.m. on Monday along the 3500 block of Runnind Deer Dr.
The family living at the home was able to evacuate safely. Emergency crews said the residents were alerted by smoke detectors.
No human injuries were reported. However, the family dog, a Yorkshire terrier died, possibly from smoke inhalation, fire crews said.
Investigators conducted an investigation and determined that an electrical cord to a toaster oven overheated and started the fire. The fire was ruled as accidental. Total damages are estimated at over $140,000.00, fire officials said.
