District 6 Residents In Las Cruces Pick New Rep Tuesday

LAS CRUCES — Voters who live in the city’s District 6 went to the polls Tuesday to choose a new representative on city council. The special election was needed after former representative Ken Miyagishima was elected mayor in November.

Retired professor Sharon Thomas will take the seat after receiving 54 percent of the vote. She defeated four other candidates for the position: Patrick Curran, Lawrence Joy, Bernard Shipley and Karen Trujillo.
