Two Columbus Police Officers Fail Certification

COLUMBUS, N.M. (AP) – The Columbus Police Department is down to one officer.

Columbus Mayor Eddie Espinoza says Police Chief Tracy Buldoc and officer Daniel Steele failed to achieve certification at the state police academy.

The town’s lone certified police officer is Wesley King, who is now acting chief.

Espinoza says the town is trying to recruit more officers. Meanwhile, the Luna County Sheriff’s Department, state police and the U.S. Border Patrol are helping to provide law enforcement for Columbus.
