Slain Border Patrol Agent Honored At Yuma Service

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) – Law officers from across the country today filled the Yuma, Arizona, Civic Center to honor a Border Patrol agent who was killed in California.

Thirty-two-year-old Senior Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar originally was from El Paso.

Aguilar was run over Saturday while trying to put spike strips in front of a Hummer fleeing other agents in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area.

A suspected drug smuggler who’s accused of being the Hummer’s driver has been arrested in Mexico.

Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Ralph Basham and Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar attended the memorial service.

Luis Aguilar is survived by his wife and a young son and daughter. His body will be taken back to his hometown of El Paso for burial Monday.
