Former Police Officer Sues Over Alleged ‘Blacklisting’

By Darren Hunt

EL PASO — A former police officer hasfiled a suit alleging a conspiracy that names the city of El Paso, Mayor John Cook, city manager Joyce Wilson and former police Chief Richard Wiles as defendants.

Jose Carrizal alleges that despite a 15-year service record with the police department, he was blacklisted for being a ‘snitch.’ Carrizal’s attorney Sam Snoddy said the unfair treatment forced Carrizal into early retirement.

“This situation has resulted in my client’s career being destroyed. He was literally a model police officer that wanted to remain in the police department 20 or 30 years. He loved being a police officer,” Snoddy said.

Calls to Wiles went unreturned; staffers with the mayor and city manager’s office said that they had not seen the lawsuit and were unable to comment.
