Grievance Filed By Carlsbad Firefighters Union

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) – A union representing Carlsbad’s firefighters has filed a grievance over the full amount of interest on back pay that they are due under a court order.

The city apparently is not paying the interest on the firefighters’ gross pay, including benefits and taxes.

So says Kenneth Dugan, who is an attorney for the International Association of Firefighters Local 1687.

Carlsbad City Administrator Harry Burgess says he believes the city has made every attempt to pay the interest under the right calculations. And he says the city is attempting to comply with the court ruling.
