Fire Crews Encourage ‘Safety First’ For Mardi Gras

On Tuesday, the El Paso Fire Marshals Office will conduct random safety inspections of establishmentsthat will serve the publicin Mardi Gras festivities throughout the city, fireofficials said in a news release.

Inspectors will also check for fire code violations. The main goal is to ensure the safety of the public as they enjoy the celebrations.

Some of the violations being looked for will include locked or blocked exits, overcrowding, fire lane violations and other violations fire officialsmay considerto be a danger to the public.

Barowners arebeing urgedto keep the safety and welfare of the public in mind when planning their events. Fines for fire code violations can go as high as $500.00.
