Brother And Sister Arrested On Child Abuse, Drug Charges

LAS CRUCES — Police have arrested siblings on child abuse and drug charges after investigators allegedly found that the illegal narcotics were being used and sold in the home where a seven-year-old resides.

Felix Gonzalez, 18, and his sister Caisha M. Gonzalez, 25, were arrested Thursday evening at their home on the 2100 block of Hagarty Avenue. Both are charged with one count of negligent child abuse. In addition, Felix Gonzalez is charged with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance and Caisha Gonzalez is charged with three counts of conspiracy, police said.

Las Cruces police detectives learned that the pair would regularly smoke marijuana in the home. Detectives also discovered that Felix Gonzalez was storing and distributing marijuana, and cocaine in the home where a seven-year-old relative resides.

Felix and Caisha Gonzalez are each being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center on $20,000 cash only bonds. The seven-year-old relative was placed in protective custody.
