ABC-7 Reporter Witnesses Theft At Local Walgreens

EL PASO — ABC-7 Reporter Darren Hunt witnessed a crime at a local Walgreens first hand Wednesday night.

Hunt said he was at the Walgreens store on North Mesa across from the Don Haskins Center shortly before nine p.m. buying a last-minute Valentine’s Day card for his girlfriend.

As he was leaving the store, four teenage boys ran right past him carrying huge white stuffed bears and other items in store baskets, he said.

Officials with the store said they rarely report these types of incidents because they only result in Class C misdemeanors. They said each one of the stolen bears costs $30.

The store’s manager played back the video for Hunt but refused to give a copy of the tape to ABC-7. Police officials said they do not have a copy of the tape because store management did not file a complaint.

Officials said the store manager is still gathering information to file a police report and will not file a report until Friday. At that point, the videotape will be provided to police, officials said.
