Several Fire Departments Assist With Socorro Fire
SOCORRO — Fire departments from all overEl PasoCountyresponded toa massive structural fire on Sunday.
More than eight structures caught fire near the 10600 block of Socorro Road shortly after4 p.m.Sunday afternoon, fire officials said. At least seven families were left homeless, officials said. The Red Cross was on the scene helping the families and organizing where they would be able to seek shelter.
Several units from the El Paso Fire Department and the Montana Vista Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. The fire was contained shortly before 6 p.m., fire crews said.
The strong winds that battered theregion were a factor in the fire, officials said. They said winds spread a small brush fire into a residential area.As of Sunday evening investigators had not been able to determine how the brush fire started.
Officials said three mobile homes were completely destroyed and several others sustained serious fire and water damages.
