Socorro Mayor Fixes Wind-Damaged Roof On Elderly Woman’s Home

by Ashlie Hardway

Socorro — Mayor Trini Lopez fixed the wind-battered roof of an elderly woman’s home.

Lopez said strong wings destroyed Maria Jacquez’s roof earlier this month and Lopez vowed to fix it.

Sunday, he worked on the roof amidst strong winds similar to the ones that destroyed it in the first place. “I don’t like people that age to be suffering the consequences of these crazy, windy storms,” he said.

Lopez said all of the supplies used to reconstruct the roof were donated by his fellow Socorro residents. He also said he has plenty of construction experience from projects he has done on his own home.

He started to work early Sunday morning. After several hours of hammering, laying paper and tarring, he finally finished. “She’s not going to worry about any more water leaks.”
