Jury Deciding Punishment For Man Who Put Daughter In Microwave
GALVESTON (AP) – A jury is deliberating the punishment for a young father convicted of severely burning his infant daughter when he put her in a microwave and turned it on for up to 20 seconds.
Earlier Tuesday, the jury rejected Joshua Mauldin’s claims he was insane when he stuffed his daughter Ana in the microwave and convicted him of felony injury to a child.
Punishment could range from probation to life in prison.
Prosecutors asked jurors not to forget what Mauldin had done to his daughter and give him a life sentence.
His defense attorney asked jurors to consider Mauldin’s long history of mental illness and give him probation so he could continue getting psychiatric treatment.
