Authorities Investigating Homicide In Dona Ana County
DONA ANA COUNTY — Investigators have identified the woman found dead in her home from a gunshot wound as 87-year-old Thieray Waldron.
Waldron died from a gunshot wound to the head and officials now say her death is being ruled a homicide.
Authorities say the victim’s husband, 87-year-old Drew Waldron physically went to the Sheriff’s Office to report his wife missing early Friday morning. The woman’s body was later found in the master bedroom of her home, which is located in the 100 block of Villa Chiquita.
Officials now say Drew Waldron is a person of interest in the investigation. According to them, Waldron does have a history of Dementia and Alzheimer and is expected to undergo psychological testing as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, neighbors are trying to come to grips with the murder. John Smith, a neighbor of the couple, said he was troubled by the discovery. “This is a really quiet neighborhood, so I’m just kind of shocked that we have something that violent going on here,” he said.
Thieray’s body will be sent to a lab in Albuquerque for the autopsy. So far, no charges have been filed against her husband.
