2 Injured When Part Of 3-Story Lubbock Parking Garage Falls

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – Part of a three-story parking garage under construction in central Lubbock collapsed Tuesday, injuring two workers.

Lubbock fire spokesman Chris Angerer says a beam was being installed when the piece of concrete fell from the top level of the garage. That caused a serial “pancake” collapse of parts of the floors below.

Angerer says one of the injured workers was on the third level, but it wasn’t clear where the other was. Both were taken to University Medical Center, but Angerer says their injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.

Lee Lewis Construction is building the garage for Lubbock-based McDougal Properties. Company president Mike McDougal says the concrete section that fell had been installed and inspected Monday.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Lubbock fire marshal are investigating.
