NTSB Gives Cause Of Crash That Killed ICE Officer

MORIARTY, N.M. (AP) – The National Transportation Safety Board says the failure of a Customs and Border Protection instructor-pilot to maintain control of the aircraft during an aborted anding contributed to a crash that killed an agency officer.

Julio Baray of El Paso died last September 24th in the crash of a Cessna 210 near the Moriarty airport.

Neither the customs agency nor the NTSB released the name of the instructor-pilot, who was injured.

Witnesses say the plane had been practicing takeoffs and landings just before the crash. The plane went off the runway and caught fire.

The NTSB says the instructor-pilot’s failure to maintain control during the aborted landing and an attempted go-around resulted in a stall and the plane went down.
