NWS Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning at 6:02 p.m. for Central Sierra County in south central New Mexico.

The NWS reports thata strong thunderstorm south of Elephant Butte will produce a torrential rainfall east of the Caballo Mountains.

The storm will likely cause runoff flooding in low water crossings on New Mexico Route 51 just east of T or C and in several places along County Road A-13.

The warning will expire at 8 p.m.

The NWS also issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 4:45 p.m. for northern El Paso County, including Montana Vista.

The warning expired at 5:45 p.m. buta flood advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. due to rainfall potential.

The NWS indicates that the storm system is capable of producing quarter-size hail and winds in excess of 60 mph.
