Crews Clear Out Home On Day 2 Of Extreme Makeover

EL PASO, Texas — On the second day of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition production in El Paso, crews were moving the Ruiz family’s belongings out in preparation for Wednesday’s demolition of the home.

The belongings are being stored in large beige storage bins on Castner Drive, which is closed off to traffic.

Thousands of volunteers will arrive at the construction site Wednesday for the “Braveheart March” and demolition.

Volunteers will gather about 7 a.m. and the demolition will occur about 11 a.m. Spectators are not allowed during the demolition, but will be welcome on Thursday.

Tuesday morning ABC-7 spoke with several movers with Admiral Storage and Van who were taking belongings out of the Ruiz home. Ricardo Arceo said Maria Ruiz was doing “amazing work” and that being a part of the project was “a pleasure.”

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crews were taking some final pictures of the interior of the home Tuesday before it comes crashing down Wednesday.

Desert View Homes is encouraging all volunteers and spectatorsto bring canned goods with them to the site.

“This all started from her kindness and what she was doing. If we were all to do just one little thing and that’s all it takes. We don’t want a lot, just want one little thing and one little thing. Add it up and it grows into so much. This is wonderful,” said Frances Erickson, a volunteer with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Erickson is also calling area schools and asking them to have their students bring canned goods and other items to class, which volunteers will pick up.
