Socorro Police Chief Bill Mansion Fired

By ABC-7 Reporter Celina Avila

SOCORRO — City Leaders fired Socorro Police Chief Bill Mansion after emerging from a two-hour closed-door meeting. They gave the public no reason for the termination.

Mansion was Socorro’s top cop for four-and-a-half years. Thursday night, Mansion told ABC-7he was never told of anything he’d done wrong.

He said his firing was retaliation for several ethics complaints he filed against city council members and Mayor Trini Lopez.

“This comes after I filed numerous complaints regarding the unethical behavior, actions, and violations of state statutes by Mayor Trini Lopez, City Alderman Jesse Gandera and the temporary City Manager Manny Soto,” Mansion said.

Wednesday, Lopez told ABC 7 there were issues of police turnover that concerned him, but he would not elaborate.

Mansion has hired an attorney and plans to sue the City of Socorro for wrongful termination.
