Online Report Card

There’s an old saying – ‘trust but verify’.
Now EPISD parents have a new tool to do just that.
it gives them more classroom access than they’ve ever had before!
On Monday, the El Paso Independent School District followed the Ysleta and Socorro School Districts and started on online parent monitoring program.
It’s called the Parent Portal program and it means your student’s daily scores are just a click away.
“You can see their daily grades, what grades they’ve turned in, what they haven’t turned in,” said Taryn Bailey, the principal of Rosa Guerrero Elementary School, “I think it also facilitates communication between the child and the parent.”
The Parent Portal is a brand new online program that allows parents to monitor what’s happening every day when their kids are at school.
“I can look it up morning, afternoon, evening which I think is great for working parents,” said parent Lorraine Maiella about the hit program, “we won’t have students, my kids, telling me, oh I lost it, I don’t know, the teacher didn’t give it to me…now we have the access to the computer, we can just go online, look it up and it’s right there!”
Teacher Rose Robles agrees with Maiella.
“I think this helps eliminate that paper back and forth because sometimes that paper gets lost in the backpack.”
EPISD officials say the program is still in its early stages, but so far there haven’t been any major hiccups.
I guess that means the Parent Portal is is getting all A’s!
To sign up for the program, district officials say parents need to log on to the EPISD website.
Once there, you need to answer some simple questions and then bring a picture I.D. to your child’s school.
After that you’ll have full access…it’s all worth it according to Taryn Bailey.
“A lot of times when you ask your child what happened at school and they tell you “nothing”, but when you get to actually look and ask specific questions it makes it really nice.”
