Constable Arrested. Accused Of Assault

There are now two men with criminal records working in the precinct six constable’s office.

Both precinct six constable, Jesus “Gus” Ramirez and his deputy constable William Burkett have been arrested and have criminal charges pending.

Burkett is also the former precinct seven constable.

On Wednesday, Ramirez was arrested on an aggravated assault charge–based on anincident that allegedly happened before he was elected.

Thursday, ABC seven stopped by his office but it was locked and no one was there.

According to the complaint affidavit, theassault happenedon Christmas Eve last year at about 11:30 at night at the “Take Five” lounge off Yarbrough.

A man alleges Ramirez began fighting with his wife in the parking lot.

When the man asked Ramirez what the problem was, Ramirez allegedly said it was none of his business and struck him with a glass on the head striking the right eyebrow.

Residents of precinct six react to their constable’s arrest.

“I think they get away with a lot of stuff and it’s about time..it’s about time they get arrested”, said one resident.

Another constituent said “They want people who are going to take care of them and not do anything unlawful. Because these people are tired …They’re afraid to go out at night.”

As the constable, Ramirez recently hired William Burkett.

He’s a former precinct seven constable who has also had run-in’s with the law.

The I-team learned Burkett’s been arrested a couple of times.

In 2004, Burkett was arrestedfor obstruction or retaliation.

He allegedly threatened a police officer after getting into a bar fight.

And most recently, he was arrested for fraudulently obtaining worker’s compensation and abusing his official capacity.

All of this allegedly happened while Constable Burkett was allegedly working as a security officer.

At the time of both arrests, Burkett was an elected official as the Constable for precinct seven.

“How can you feel safe with officers like that?” askedanother resident.

Neither Ramirez or Burkett have been convicted in any of the charges they’ve been arrested for.
