2 Men Arrested After Allegedly Trying To Buy 325 Lbs. Of Pot

EL PASO, Texas — Two men were in court Monday after allegedly trying to buy over 300 lbs. of marijuana from undercover federal agents, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials said.

Forty-nine-year-old Ruben Ceballos and 40-year-old Fernando Barrientos were arrested about 5 p.m. Friday at a parking lot in the 330 block of North Yarbrough after taking possession of 325 lbs. of marijuana.

According to an affidavit, Barrientos and Ceballos arrived at the parking lot together. Once Ceballos purchased the marijuana, he was allegedly going to pay Barrientos $300 to drive the vehicle with the drugs to Ceballos’ East El Paso home.

Ceballos negotiated the purchase on March 25, ICE officials said. On Friday, ICE agents seized the $72,990 they say Ceballos used in the drug transaction.
